Be Careful When You Purchase Used Vending Machines

There are so many ways for a business to acquire a vending machine.  You can find them on ebay, craigslist, ads, or just simply do a search online.  As a national vending machine sales company for all types of new and used equipment, we are experts on vending machines and great at determining the values of all the different types on the market.

General rule for finding a good deal on vending machine is tricky.  The problem with purchasing one from an individual is that you never really get any warranty on how much a used machine is going to last for you.  And since a lot of major manufacturing companies keep the same style, you also cannot tell the year of most vending machines are made.  Unless you are an expert on all parts on a vending machine, you are definitely taking a gamble on that equipment breaking down on you.

The most important rule is: You get what you paid for! If someone is selling it for cheap, then you are buying cheap equipment for a reason!  Go with reputable companies like Piranha that will actually go through each individual part on each and every vending machine to ensure that you are getting the longest life out of your used vending machine equipment!

Move Vending Machines Like A Pro

Here’s some important tips on vending that’s good for anyone to know. Most of you count on yourself to do everything! You rely on yourself to do most of the muscle work for your vending business. The great thing about vending is, you CAN absolutely run this business without a lot of equipment or investment on fleets of trucks or employees. You really don’t need a fancy office or any high tech gadgets either. You can keep your vending business as simple as you want and it will still make you money!

There is one thing that you absolutely have to be careful with, and that’s your equipment. There will come a time after your initial set up that you might need to move your vending machine. Businesses move, or you might simply find a better location for your machine. When the time comes, you want to know what you’re doing so you don’t damage your equipment during transit.

First, you need to prepare for the move. If you are moving just one piece of equipment, you might be able to get by with a pick up truck and another helper. You should also have a furniture dolly, moving blanket, moving straps.

Second, make sure you empty the machine from change, dollars, drinks, and snacks. If you think that the trip might be a little bumpy, you should also have some tape so any shelves or parts will not fall out.

Lastly, and definitely most importantly, do not lay down the vending machine if it has a refrigeration unit inside. If you absolutely have to, make the time as short as possible. Never turn on the refrigeration unit immediately after it has been laying down. You want to give the oils enough time to settle back to normal before you start cooling the machine. Generally, you should let refrigeration rest from a few hours up to one day.

Happy Moving!

How To Set The Right Price For Your Snack/Drink Vending Machine

There are so many different varieties of products to vend out of a vending machine.  And with a great vending machine from Piranha, you can really amp up the variety in your unit!  Once you go to your discount store to get your products, how do you set the proper price to make a profit AND keep prices reasonable?

Take your items and find out the individual cost.  Average wholesale cost for snack items can range from $0.15-$0.75 and drink items can range from $0.25-$1.00.  Basically, you want to take the price you pay for your item, and multiply by 2.  Usually, that equates to a fair price to operate your business and provide your services for that location.  There’s really not any formula or exact equation to set your prices.  You can adjust them however you like.  But this would be the general rule.

You can also make things simple by grouping similar items and setting prices according to type of item.   For example, all chips $0.75, all candy bars $0.95, all can sodas $0.75, etc.  There’s always exceptions for specialty items that will need to be adjusted.  Healthy food items tend to cost more to purchase; therefore those items need to have higher prices to compensate.
